Antiquity Oaks Nigerian Dwarf Goats - Herd Health

Our goats' health is very important to us. Whenever I purchase new goats, I always ask a lot of questions about herd health, because I don't want to bring an unhealthy animal into our herd. So, here are the answers to the questions I normally ask before I purchase goats from anyone. If you have questions not answered here, please ask!

  • Our goats receive free-choice Sweetlix MeatMaker goat minerals and baking soda.
  • All of our goats came from CAE-free, Johnnes-free, TB-free, and brucellosis-free herds, and we are enrolled in the USDA's scrapie eradication program.
  • Illinois is a certified TB-free and brucellosis-free state.
  • All bucks, does, wethers, and kids on Antiquity Oaks tested negative for CAE (Caprine Arthritis Encephalitis) in October 2004. Those who came into our herd after that time tested negative at the time of purchase.
  • Rather than worming our goats on a schedule, we check stool samples monthly for parasites and use dewormers and coccidiostats based on the results. We prefer to use herbal wormers when possible, but will use chemical wormers when necessary.
  • All kids are disbudded and vaccinated for CDT.

If you have any other questions about our herd health, please don't hesitate to ask.
